The Oakville Book Reading Club for the Environment and Social Justice

Announcing the new Oakville Book Reading Club for the Environment and Social Justice

The Oakville Book Reading Club for the Environment and Social Justice has been formed to encourage people to read books that deal with some of the most important issues of the day and then come together to discuss the subject matter of these books.

“We are very excited about this newly founded group because it will provide a great opportunity for Oakvillians to share their concerns and vision for the future,” said Mervyn Russell of Oakville.

“The first book that club members will read and discuss will be ‘This Changes Everything’ by Naomi Klein. This best-selling book is about climate change. It challenges us to look at our world in a radically different way and gives readers lots of reasons to believe there can be solutions to this profound threat that our world faces,” he remarked.

The Oakville Book Reading Club for the Environment and Social Justice will meet for five consecutive Thursdays beginning on January 14 2016 at the Anglican Church of the Incarnation located at the corner of Dorval Drive and Old Abbey Lane. Subsequent meeting dates include January 21 and 28, February 4 and 11, 2016. All meetings will be from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.

After registering, members will be encouraged to read this book over the holiday season. This book can be purchased in soft cover for $22 or borrowed from the public library.

Participants will be invited to propose other titles to be read in 2016.

It is free to attend all meetings however advance registration is required. To register, send an e-mail to mervicia@yahoo.ca.
